In May, we would be thrilled to have you join our community in celebrating our Commonwealth Day Holiday on Friday, May 24th. Even though Belize gained independence from British rule in 1981, we have kept the Commonwealth Day as a day to celebrate our sovereignty.

Lobsterfest & Conch Season – Bounty from the Caribbean Sea

June 21-22-23 Lobsterfest will be a gala event to mark on your travel wish list! Since 1998, Lobsterfest in Placencia, Belize has been a wonderful, safe gathering for locals and visitors with live music, arts, crafts, delicious food and drink, and fun games such as the Rotary Duck Race! Lobsterfest also marks the end of Conch season depending on quota requirements. A Cancer Walk will take place in June, 2019 with the date to be announced.

Moving on to September, Mariposa invites you to share in festivities with us during this busy month. September 10th marks St. George’s Caye Day holiday, which is the start day of our September patriotic season followed by Flag Raising ceremonies on September 20th, Belize Independence Day and Carnival on September 21st, and more! There will also be a Yamaha Marelco saltwater fishing tournament in September in Placencia with the date to be announced.

If the populations are healthy, the Conch season is due to open on October 1st. In case you are wondering, conch is a Caribbean delicacy and the seasons are monitored closely to ensure long term sustainability of this gift from the sea! Pan-American Day takes place on October 14th, which has become a celebration of cultural diversity in Belize.

Belize Birding Festival – Bird Walks, Exhibits, Keynote Presenter

On the weekend of October 19 – 20, we expect to see birders from around the world flock to Belize for the 2nd Annual Belize Birding Festival sponsored by the Belize Tourism Industry Association. Finish Off 2019 with Your New Friends in Placencia, Belize

End 2019 with a splash by joining us in Placencia, Belize for any or all of the November and December festivals and events. On November 19th we will recognize the Garifuna Settlement Day holiday, which is a re-enactment of the day the Garifuna people from Africa landed on the shores of Belize in 1823, seeking a place to settle in peace.

Placencia’s very own End of the World Marathon on December 8, 2019 may sound somewhat morbid. However, it is a remembrance of the last day of the Mayan calendar, which many people feared would literally be the end of the world – December 12, 2012. As we know, the world goes on and so does this marathon, as a fundraiser to allow local children attend high school. Mariposa Beach Resort is proud to be a watering station for runners, as well as a host for runners from around the world.

There will be plenty of festivities throughout Placencia, Belize in December to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve. We invite you to come join us at Mariposa in experiencing the tropical beauty of the Caribbean coast and vibrant cultural expression waiting to welcome you as an honoured guest.
